Weight Loss & Exercise Help?

Pete asked:
I need some help on making a weight loss and exercise schedule. I know some of you will say join your local gym or buy this and that but for now, there’s no way I can spend any bit of money on anything. I’m 17, I live with my parents, I don’t have a job anymore so I don’t have any bit of money (my parents always needed my money anyways). I have no say in what we’re going to eat or buy to eat because, frankly, my parents don’t care that I’m trying to lose weight. But my dad sure does love to criticize me. Besides, they don’t want to just buy me something. They need to buy food for the entire family (4 right now).

Anyways, without having to buy any food or join a club, what can I do to lose weight that’s, well, free! I have to two 15-lb dumbbells that I borrowed from my brother-in-law and that’s about it…
Any help would greatly be appreciated!!

just do push ups, and sit ups,, bicycle kicks, etc, there are alot of resistance moves you can do to lose weight and tone without going to a gym
try not to eat red meat, if you mom make steak and veggis eat the veggies and a little steak, i always try to eat my veggi’s first so i can get fool off of it,
try to eat only small portions
like i eat a cup of oatmeal in the morning, then have a sandwich or something for lunch, half the sandwich and wait to eat the other half in an hour.
the more you eat and the less portions, the more your matabolism speeds up.
run for 20 mins a day, your in high school im sure they have a track there.
hope i could help and good luck
portion control on what foods that you do eat. Substitute water for sugary soda and juices. Start walking briskly or jogging, it doesn’t cost anything and you need no equipment.
You’re in a pretty bad place if you need to lose weight. I would definitely talk to someone at school, perhaps your gym teacher. That person will help you figure out if you are overweight (many young people who think they are are not really) and help with what you can do about it. They will also be able to figure out how much of your parents’ attitude is problematic – that is very hard for me as an outsider to say, but someone closer to the issue will know better.
You need to limit your portions, and eat smaller portions of whatever you eat. I hope your parents are providing healthy food – eat more of the vegetables that they provide and lean meats (trim any fat off meat, remove skin from chicken. Limit carbohydrates; if possible pick whole grains to replace them.
Avoid treats – like candy, baked goods. Even lowfat products have lots of bad stuff. Avoid french fries like the plague – and all fast food, really. It’s not food for your body, it is just fat for on your body. Skip it, and eat a salad instead if your friends go to McD’s or something.
Don’t drink soda – get a bottle of water and refill it – keep it with you and enjoy it.
Exercise – walk, bike, run when you go places. Take stairs instead of elevators, and go up them as fast as you can. This is where the gym teacher can really help you – identifying groups, maybe teams, that will provide you access to their facilities.
Use those dumbells – there are a number of weight exercises you can do with dumbells; again a gym teacher can help you identify them and work up a schedule. If you build up your muscles, that will increase your metabolism.
Hope that helps!
The only way, that I know to lose weight without any type of money is:
- exercise daily- don’t over work yourself though, start off by stretching in the morning & doing a little runnning for about 3 minutes, walking for about 5-10 minutes- you seem to burn more calories by walking than running,
- since you have no control what your parents cook, buy to eat etc., you have no choice but to eat a small portion as the size of your fist, and turn your parents unhealthy prepared meal, into a healthy one… For example: If she fries the chicken, before you’re ready to have dinner, take the skin off the chicken & boil it for about 5 minutes with a little bit of salt so the chicken can release most of the grease, if you stay hungry by eating the portion of your fist, I can bet your parents have some type of fruits, or yogurt, eat those as snacks, try as much possible to choose the healthy snacks & meals, than the unhealthy ones. Example: Choose the apple instead of the rice krispies.
- Cut all you favorite sweet drinks, no more sweet stuff- believe me, I use to drink nothing but iced tea, soda & juice, & no water, that’s one sacrifice I had to make that I don’t regret, I drink water everyday, no more iced tea or soda—-unless I’m going to drink it with liquor, but anyways, I drink juice maybe 2x in a week, and milk about the same in a week- which is not bad. By doing that alone, its 5 lbs of fat that you’re getting rid out of your body. Water is free, you get it from the sink & no one will say anything to you unless your parents have a problem with you taking a cup size space in the fridge to cool your water, if that’s the case.
Loosing weight is not easy, but by following healthy steps & making simple sacrifices, it will benefit you in the long run, and you will definetly see results in weeks. I use to ask a lot of questions on “how to lose weight”, I was taking pills- which only help to gain weight, some people say join the gym- which I didn’t have money for, I buy whatever I feel like for food, that’s the only advantage that I have. I am proud to say that by following those steps I achived my goals, I use to be 133 lbs. & now I’m 119 lbs.
I just need to tone up my stomach, that’s all & I’ll be happy with my body.
I trully hope you take some of this advice, it really works, as simple as it may sounds- its sometimes hard work & I hope you can follow some of these steps so you can reach your goals.
I know some people say “be happy with what God gives you” but sometimes it just doesn’t work & we’re still unhappy, and if you think that by loosing some weight might help & benefit you in many ways & at the same time love yourself more & become a better person, than go for it, don’t let ANYONE, not even your parents put you down by calling you names or by critizising you, you have control of your own body, if you put your mind into it, then you can do it. Good luck, & also wish you a healthy life.
I mostly used the “lose 9 lbs. every 11 days” system and it worked great for me. Seems like over 10 000 purchased this system in October 2007 alone – perhaps the most popular natural weight loss system?
Running is free! Lace up your running shoes, and head out. Don’t start out too fast or try and do too much. Run at a comfortable pace, and walk when you feel like walking. Depending on your level of fitness, you may need to start by just walking, but make sure you are getting a minimum of 30 minutes of continuous exercise (with no stopping). Do this 3x per week until it gets easier and then slowly add in more running. Before you know it, you’ll be a runner! On your off days, do sit ups, push ups, etc.
As far as diet, you need to restrict your calories to an amount that allows you to lose weight. You can eat the same foods you are now, only in lesser quantities. Eat smaller portions, no seconds, and choose fruits/veggies over carbs and fried foods.
You should aim to lose 1 pound per week. By doing that, you need to cut 500 calories per day. Aim to burn 250 from exercise and to eat 250 fewer. Good luck!
I really like the website fitday.com. It helps you to determine the right amount of calories you should be consuming, as well as what you have consumed and how much you have burned through exercise.
