Why do Unhealthy People Blame Bush for Heathcare Costs Instead of Obesity, Which has Doubled Diabetes &?

Free Mortgage for Juan asked:

… doctors say is bad for people?

Isn’t that similar to a person who jumps off a 10 foot ladder for blaming someone else for not being there to catch them?

Is it easier to vote for Obama than to follow doctors orders and to weigh no more than our parents did 20 years ago?

Kroll,

that’s it. Blame the restaurants while many of your neighbors are NOT obese because they know how to control themselves.

I blame fast food and junk food. That has made people more unhealthy than cigarettes, alcohol or street drugs.

The failure of the healthcare system isn’t caused by docters or the insurence agencies. It’s caused by patients who have not accepted Jesus Christ and there Lord & Savior.

I have had perfect health through Christ.

Obama is the antiChrist. We must come together to support Sarah Palin and John McCain now!

Excuse me, but I’m a diabetic and was born that way. I’m in shape and fit, and I cannot get health insurance because of my pre-existing condition.

NO, it’s not…do you know that starchy food that is high in carbs is cheaper than healthier food? For a family finding it harder and harder to pay the bills, cheaper food is an unwelcome alternative and some people have no choice. $20 in groceries compared to two years ago doesn’t buy very much…some people have to eat spaghetti every day. If you really think about it, it makes more sense than blaming people for something that is out of their control.

When we get Universal Healthcare, you and I will pay for some lazy person to eat whatever they want, do nothing, and get sick.k

But it’s the neighborly thing to do, take care of everyone, even when they don’t take care of themselves.

They blame Bush for everything. I’m trying to figure out if he’s to blame for the Phillies winning or the Rays losing.

At at time when many people have no other choice than to make unhealthy food choices – the $1 menu at McDonalds is cheaper than buying produce at the supermarket, of course, there is going to be an increase in diabetes and obesity.

It used to be that poor people were skinny because they didn’t have enough to eat, now they tend towards obesity because they have more choices but still the same amount of money to spend.

What we really need is a birth to grave healthcare system that focuses on prevention. We need dieticians and nutritionists to teach children what to eat and let them bring that knowledge home to their families, if their families don’t know what to do.

Eating healthy is expensive. And sometimes it comes down to whether or not you can afford your meds or go to the doctor v. buying that Happy Meal or not eating.

And many of these people either can’t afford healthcare or don’t get it through their employers so they either ignore warning signs about their health or wait until it is too late to do more than medicate the problem and try to teach them to live with it.

Sorry, but simply blaming people for being fat does not solve the question of how to deal with mounting health care costs. If losing weight was easy, we would not have the problem we have today.

I have worked in the wellness industry for over 30 years. The evidence is mounting that obesity is NOT just a matter of how much you put in your mouth versus the calories you burn. Certainly it is a factor, but it isn’t the whole story. For instance, we know that once an overweight person reaches a certain percentage above their ideal weight, their statistical ability to lose weight starts to drop… regardless of the effort they are putting in to losing weight. Something happens to them genetically that alters their chemistry and makes it more and more difficult.

We also are seeing evidence that the chidlren of obese parents have a higher genetic (not just environmental!) predisposition to obesity.

The bottom line is… A doctor can “order” you to do all sorts of things, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s possible.

Unfortunately, it’s the present mind set in this country. When ever anything doesn’t go just right, just look around for someone else to blame. It is a mind set that is cemented home by litigation lawyers and has resulted in the demise of the old adage concerning consequences for ones actions.

Well I would have to say it is a little bit of everything. A little bit of too many restaurants serving greasy foods (and I am not blaming fast food restaurants just pointing out that what they have to offer isn’t exactly health promoting. It is also a matter of convenience since laziness reigns supreme in our country), more than a bit of people not having any self discipline, Its also portion size these days, and since America is a country of convenience it is much easier for the parents to control the kids with unhealthy snacks, soda, candy, processed tv dinners, or just taking them to Mcdonald’s. The kids aren’t getting enough exercise therefore they start those horrible habits early instead of forming good one’s that the parents should be instilling in them. Remember, that is the parents job (eat your vegetables), right? As for the increase in diabetes, I can understand about people who are born with diabetes, of course this wouldn’t affect you so don’t worry about it, but yes (and my father is a diabetic and I can say unhappily that he did become diabetic because of his weight) diabetes has become an increasing problem, but society as a whole is too lazy to just get up off their ***** and do something about it. Think about it. In a years time if everyone who was over weight consumed just enough to lose a pound a week and walked for an hour a day (just walking! walking is easy!!!) how much weight would they lose? A lot! But, no one is doing anything about it because they are too busy blaming it on what? Everyone else.
