Is obesity a burden on society or a burden on the individual?

Previously, I’ve asked this question: How can we ban fast food from the breakfast/lunch/dinner table?
On my blog : www. banfastfood.com I write against fast food as the primary choice for children and families.
Some people who responded to my first question spoke about the constitutional rights of people to eat what they want and that other people’s eating habit shouldn’t matter to others. Statistics prove that most people who eat fast food and the majority of the obese are working class individuals. Those are people who cannot afford health insurance; people who will crowd emergency rooms for emergency care; people who are less educated; people who will not be productive members of society because they will die of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc… Healthcare cost will continue to rise and the price of health insurance with it.
We regulate tobacco, street drugs and prescription drugs because drug addicts are a burden on society. Isn’t obesity?
How do you know you have diabetes?
I dont know much, but someone told me it might be a good idea to get tested.
There is a history of thyroid problems and obesity in my family. I have chronic dry eye. there are other things too but these are just a few because i dont want to freak myself out.

I do not agree that some babies would die. There are Wet nurses and donated breastmilk still, just not formula.
Why do people say chubby children have just “baby fat” when Obesity & Diabetes is at large?
& I always hear & see people say that they don’t have to diet. But If there is a 12 year old girl who is overweight, shouldn’t she be on a diet rather then getting diabetes & other health problems at a young age? What’s with all the excuses?

It would seem that the intelligent question is not how will we afford to treat all the future sick people but how do we keep our society as healthy as possible. It just seems like a no brainer.

The cancer has stopped our *** life. The diabetes means having to take a basketful of expensive drugs, so doing things that cost money is rather out. Oh, and did I mention that our daughter and family are a boomarang family. What is the outlook?

I think they aught to tax ALL the sugary foods Lets face it obesity is a real problem in this country and with a soon coming health insurance plan WE (in order to make it palatable to the insurance co’s) need to do what we can to lessen the rate of diabetes and heart disease

formula and obesity?
i heard there could be a link to formula feeding and obesity and diabetes in children. is there any studies to prove this? also is giving babies food to soon related to these things?
can junk food really be the number one cause of these problems? my mom said when she was little her mother cooked with tons of butter and lard and all kinds of bad things and her generation doesnt have such an obesity epidemic. she said they did play outside more then kids now a days.
any way my question is does formula and introducing solids (expecially rice cereal) too soon contribute to all the child health problems? i aprreciate your opinions and if you have any links to websites that will be very helpful thanks
