Diabetes, heart attacks, cancer, strokes, back injuries etc etc. Our nation is ver stressed, over weight and under nourished and it’s killing us. Not to mention, driving health care costs through the roof.

What is really wrong with us, what are we looking for in food that we don’t get elsewhere?

Why can being obese lead to Type 2 diabetes?

charlessmith702210@sbcglobal.net asked:

Looks like the process related to obesity and diabetes is that the oventum’s overload of excess fat from obesity creates plaques like cholesterol. Those plaques eventually burst and go right into the pancreas, which controls blood sugar. The detonated fat particles then interfere with normal functions of the pancreas, causing an severe inflammatory response that leads to chronic hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia as the inflammatory damage in the pancreas means that blood sugar is not going to be normal anymore.

What is the real deal with High Fructose Corn Syrup?

PrimeTime asked:

Opponents to HFCS say that it is the reason why America is experiencing such a problem with obesity and diabetes. Supports of HFCS, like the United States Corn Refiners Association argue that other countries in the world who’s people consume HFCS as well don’t have problems with obesity and diabetes.
1) Is this true?
2) Does that mean HFCS isn’t bad in any way?
3) If it is debatable whether HFSC is good or bad, why do opponents of it speak so strongly about their views? Might there be a political motive behind this debate on both sides? If so, what is each side’s real motive?
For those of you who say its just sugar, if it is, then why do so many people say that it is not ‘just sugar’? I honestly don’t know what to believe. But, again, if its just sugar, what is the motive behind the people saying its not ‘just sugar’?

bio machine asked:

It has been obsereved that Diabetes occurs in people suffering from obesity. There should be some correlation between the two. This may be due to some physioloic, genetic, immunologic or some other factor. As a student of biotechnology,i wanted to know the precise relation between them and the mechanism by which they affect each other.I would also be thankful if some good websites for exploration of this topic are suggested.

diane k asked:

I want to start a low profit fruit and vegetable stand to be located in Eastern or Central Harlem, to help address the issue of limited accessibility to healthy foods that the residents of these areas suffer from, with higher averages of Diabetes, Obesity, and overall lower quality health. I need to research more on the licencing aspects for this endeavor. If it works out starting off small, I would like to gather volunteers to help expand on this project. For more information proving the necessity of such a program go to, http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/downloads/pdf/dpho/dpho-harlem-report2007.pdf. I would appreciate any input on anything I have discussed here. Thank You

Does socialized medicine mean the end of individual liberty?

April 16, 2009 · Filed Under Diabetes · 10 Comments

Matthew D asked:

The costs of providing health care for a population that is prone to obesity, diabetes and heart problems is exorbitant and would bankrupt the health care system if not the country. In countries with socialized medicine, they have confronted this reality by imposing draconian means of preventative medicine where an adult more or less losses his/her right to make personal lifestyle choices. In order for socialized medicine to work, this is necessary. Are Americans willing to trade their dignity and rights as adults and revert to the role of children in exchange for socialized medicine?
