How much does obesity affect the ability to get pregnant?

what’s the point asked:
I’m overweitght but want to have a baby. Of course I am trying to lose weight before getting pregnant because I don’t want to develop gestational diabetes or put myself or the baby in danger.
My doctor has told me that I can’t get pregnant just because of the weight (because it’s causing me to have irregular periods) but I see heavy women who are pregnant all the time. Surely they can’t all be having irregular cycles.
How much of it is the weight and how much of it is my period coming whenever it feels like it?

Can diabetes from obesity disappear?

cragmor asked:
If someone gets diabetes from being overweight, is it possible for the body to start responding to insulin again? I think I saw it on some weight loss show (biggest loser?) where the trainer told a guy that he had great news, his body was starting to respond to insulin again.
Was he just showing symptoms, and not truly diabetic, or did his body reverse the disease?

Could somebody tell me where to find statistics on obesity and type II diabetes?
Older F asked:
I am curious about the health risk of obesity and I wonder if anybody could point me in the general direction of stats that specifically monitor coronary heart disease in obese individuals without a family history. Secondly I am also interested in the number of individuals suffering severe health consequences as a result of Diabetes Type II (by serious I mean : amputations, strokes, blindness). PLEASE NOTHING ANECDOTAL

Should we slap on a Fat Tax for Obesity just as we have with Tobacco?
May 20, 2009 · Filed Under Diabetes · 11 Comments
Me, Too asked:
Obesity is a killer, causing folks to have diabetes, strokes and heart attacks. Cigarettes also kill, thus we have taxed them to very high prices, thus discouraging folks from smoking. Should we start by having Fat Sections in Restaurants, or perhaps insisting that Fatties gobble their calorie-high foods outside on the curb, 100 feet from the doorway, thus taking them from the sight of slimmer, healthier folks? Should we give obese people the same treatment we have given cigarette smokers, with similar laws for eating fatty foods? Would this cut down on obesity? Would it save lives? Would it relieve the high cost of treating these people for strokes, heart attacks, diabetes and other diseases ? Or is it any of our business what anyone does with his or her life?
